Oh, they might somehow still be in business but for many, tools enable us to do our jobs.
In fact, if it weren’t for a few of the following content marketing tools, I doubt very much if I would have been successful as a content marketer.
Think about it. Without filtering tools, the fire hose of information coming at us online at all times would be completely unwieldy and nearly unusable.
Without content creation tools, we might still be subject to content publishing “gatekeepers” and not able to publish our own blog posts.
Without social media management tools we might be tied to our computers all day in an effort to maintain a consistent presence that gets marketing results.
While I admit I haven’t tried most of the tools that are now available to content marketers, I’ve been reading, watching and asking questions about what works for quite a while. The following list reflects tools I tried and then came to rely on on a regular basis.
Listly, the tool I used to create this list, is a new tool I’m trying. It allows me to create visually pleasing lists and embed them right on my blog. It also allows people to vote items up or down the list, add commentary, and add their own items. So please, if you have any tools you’d like to add, please do!

I am a recently converted Buffer fanatic. This app alone allows me to create and schedule social media posts at the click of a button; handle many social media accounts; work with several team members; create useful analytics reports on all my social media activity.
Before Buffer I used Hootsuite for years to manage my social media marketing activity. I still use it and like it for certain thing (see below.)
But the pre-chosen time slots, Buffer toolbar button and superior analytics won me over. And the excellent customer service on the rare occasions when I've had problems with this app, has kept me loyal.
An Amazing Tool
I use Google Hangouts several times per week and I know I've only scratched the surface of how it can be employed in content marketing.
As a Google product it interfaces well with other Google products. Starting a hangout is easy and up to 10 people participate. There are tools to make your hangouts look more professional. Broadcast hangouts provide excellent opportunities for creating video content that can be embedded on your website.
Even if all you want to do is have a video call with someone, it's a great choice for reliability and quality.
The Winner, Hands Down
No blogging platform I have used has come close to WordPress's user-friendliness, flexibility and customization options.
Others come close, but none include all the features that WordPress has.
Some of my favorites: the ability to keep posts in draft form; the ability to post any size photo; plugins that allow you to improve SEO, tweet old posts, add in-text pre-written tweets.

No other tool has allowed me to amplify my blog posts and connect with influencers in my niche as well as Triberr has.

I just discovered Newsana recently and it has already become one of my favorite ways to find top-notch content to share on social media.

Still Useful for Stream Monitoring
Though I've switched to Buffer for most of my social media post creation, scheduling and analytics, I still use Hootsuite to monitor my various social media streams and occasional create posts that I transfer to Buffer.
Until Buffer adds stream creation to its list of features, I will probably continue to use Hootsuite for monitoring.
Great for Conference Calls, Interviews
Skype is my go-to tool for video calls when the person I want to chat with isn't familiar with Google Hangouts.
Like Hangouts, it allows you to video chat with several people at once (though this is a premium feature.)
One thing it does that Hangouts doesn't do is allow you to make calls to phone lines via your computer. I have found this to be a very handy (and economical) way to make business calls.
When conducting research, I've found it extremely useful to record interviews conducted over Skype, with the Garage Band app on my Mac.

I like Photo Pin because it makes finding free images for my blog posts and crediting the photographers very easy.
